FRESH / SOPH: Extra Credit

Gentlemen,

As promised, below is an extra credit opportunity. You are to do only ONE of the options below:

1. Attend mass this week. Create your own homily based on the readings from the Sunday Mass. In addition, you are to also critique the homily of your pastor (priest). The summary should be no more than ONE page long! Please double space the paper (if you need to shrink the size, do so - to keep it under one page).
- Indicate the day you attend (Saturday or Sunday) and the parish you attended.

2. Attend the BLCC's (Black and Latino Culture Club) showing of the move "Romero" on Friday afternoon. In a one page submission, write your observation of the movie. Constructively critique the film and the character (this does not mean that your critique is to be negative).

3. Watch the Discovery Channel special: "Discovery: Atlas - Australia" which airs on Sunday, 10/22/06, at 9:00 PM. In a one page submission, write your observation of the show. Focus, primarily, on the religious elements that are mentioned within the show (the Aborigines and other religions, etc.).

2. Know what the "Hindu Concept of Self" is -- Atman, how it relates to Brahman?
- What is it?
- How is it defined?
- Describe its elements.
- Is it re-incarnated? Is the personality of a person re-incarnated?

4. Law of Karma: Be able to explain this to me. What is it? How does it work? How does it affect your Atman?

5. The Hindu Ways to union with the Ultimate Reality: The 4 Different Types of Yoga.

8. Be able to talk about Sacred Cows, Morality, & Scripture (Smirti, Shruti) -- also Vedas, Brahmanas, & Bhagavad Gita. --> Be able to define those.

9. Also, recognize the information from the video (about Veranasi -- Ganges, Sheeva, Ganga, Holy City/City of Light, etc.
